What's this, Fuel injection? 2013 Ninja 300!

It's more than just an extra 50cc's

“Wait, you upgraded your 250 to a 300? Was the 50cc upgrade worth it?”
Yep!
I got a lot with the ninja 300, the 250 was a great bike do not get me wrong. But the 300 offered a whole lot more. It gave me fuel injection, about 50 extra cc’s, and a host of other upgrades, including a much more modernized dashboard and appearance, admittedly it does lose points for not being candy green. However, it looks like a big bike! I used to get people all the time (uninformed individuals) asking if it was a 600 or even 1000. The 300 definitely tricked more people than the 250 did.

This was a major upgrade, even if it doesn't look like it.

It was September of 2014, I just started going to school at my new college. I was in class and I was angry that the weatherman said it was going to rain so I decided to take my car, even though it turned out to be a beautiful day. Feeling like I was wasting the day I decided to google around and see if there were any motorcycle dealerships around. I needed new gloves so I figured it would be a good idea to check some out. I found out that there was actually a place just 10 minutes from my school. Excellent! I’ll check it out.

So class ends and I get to the dealership and as i’m searching around I notice a ninja 300 sitting on the showroom floor. The dealer was showing it to a couple of guys, the one guy talking to the dealer was super interested in the 300. I kept browsing until the customer left, I still remember him saying as he was walking out “I’m coming back for that bike!”. It was after that moment when the dealer looked at me and asked if he could help me with anything. I completely forgot about the gloves and was just staring at the ninja 300. I said “Wow that is an insanely good deal for that bike ($4,199). He knew I was interested and I said to him that I would like to maybe come back later and check it out. It was at this moment the dealer behind the counter (a different guy) said to me “hey! Do you want to take it for a test ride?!” I couldn’t believe he asked me that question.. to this day no one has ever let me test ride any bike, this was the first time ever. I said to him “well I would but I don’t have any of my gear or anything” and he said to me “no problem, I have a helmet right here you can use! Do you have your motorcycle license?” about a month earlier I had taken the MSF course and got my license so I showed him it and he let me ride it.

Let me just say guys, that after coming from a ninja 250, the 300 felt like a rocket ship. It’s hard to imagine I know, but the 300 felt really fast, you won’t be able to understand unless you only rode ninja 250’s for 4 months before stepping on the 300. The 300 was the first time I actually felt the front end lift up a little bit. It didn’t go off the ground, but under full acceleration the suspension decompresses, that is something neither of my ninja 250’s could even do. I was instantly in love. The gauges were amazing, the power was spectacular. It just felt so right to me. I came back to the dealership only after a 5 minute test ride full of smiles.

I sold my ninja 250 that day (I had a guy who was interested and I gave him the green light) to come and get it. I went back the next day with $4,000 in cash (my entire savings!) I negotiated him down to $4,000 and I still remember the dealer telling me there was a $100 documentation fee, I told him I didn’t have it (I wasn’t lying) and he waived it for me. I think he could tell I really wanted the bike and was willing to help me out. I had to wait a day (longest 24 hours of my life) to get it, but the next day I got it and was happy as a clam!

I still remember riding home that night with the bike, everything felt new and different. It was a special moment that I am so glad I got to experience. I kept the bike for about 9 months before selling it. I sold it to buy my CBR600RR which I still own today.

I only did a few things to the bike, Chinese levers, & Carbon fiber Mussari Slip on exhaust.
